Are Your Pillowcases Causing Your Breakouts?

Going to bed everyday is probably what everyone yearns for. It’s very important to be able to get the right amount of sleep everyday. Not only that but it’s also important to be able to get a GOOD nights sleep. Something important that plays a huge part in how we sleep is our pillow. What if we told you that your pillow can actually have a downside to it?

If you’ve noticed that your face has been breaking out, whether it’s on one side or the other, it’s time to take a look at your pillowcases. According to Zoey, that type of acme is called acne mechanica. It’s basically a form of acne that can be developed when an object or material is in constant contact with your face. This means that if you haven’t changed your pillowcase lately, you should think about doing that!

Think about it like this. Your face is constantly being exposed to the outside environment. It’s always picking up dirt and debris from your everyday tasks and as much as we want to believe that we are washing our face and completely getting rid of all of it, this isn’t always the case. Our face constantly has bacteria and different oils. When we go to bed that transfers to our pillows. If you don’t wash it constantly, that’s all going to build up and cause acne.

Keep in mind that not everyone is going to experience acne from their pillowcases. Washing your pillowcases is also just a great way to make sure that you’re keeping everything clean. We’re here to give you some tips to make sure that you’re staying away from the pillowcase breakout.

One of the first things you should do before getting in your bed is of course, wash your face! This is going to help get most of the dirt and oils off our face. That way, you won’t be transferring so much to your pillow at night. It’s a good idea to speak to your dermatologist to talk about what can be the best way to take care of your skin long-term.

The next thing you should do is wash your pillowcases regularly. It’s recommended to wash them at least once a week if you see that you’re constantly breaking out. This is important because that’s what’s going to help take away all the dirt that accumulated on them. Washing your pillowcase becomes even more of a necessity if you tend to put heavy product in your hair. Your face isn’t the only thing that can transfer dirt and oil.

This tip might be common for some people. It’s said that switching out your cotton pillowcases can help a lot with breakouts. Cotton pillowcases can cause a lot of friction, which plays a huge part in irritation on your skin. If you get a silk or satin pillowcase the friction will be a lot less. Sadly, the type of pillowcase material that you use won’t stop the amount of dirt from transferring. This is why you should still always wash your pillows every once in a wile to make sure they’re all clean.
